1906 cross-stitched cat

I've just uploaded to MediaFire all the single pages of Il Ricamo 1906, No.5 (4th February 1906) , you will find links to them and other issues in the page dedicated to this old magazine (see tabs above!). The link to download the whole magazine in one compressed file is not yet up as I have the files on my other pc and I haven't yet uploaded it (and I can't do it right now), but it will be added in a few hours.[UPDATE: now all the links are in their place! ] I loved a couple of small cross-stitch patterns that could be used for some small item (a needlebook, or a pincushion), one is this cat, and the other is a dog in the same size and style...Both are on Page 34 of the magazine. I think I'll stitch them as they look so lovely and quick to do, and in case I'll publish the photos of my work! This is a whitework pattern ( Broderie Anglaise) that you can find on Page 35 . Downsizing

It's easy to move from a small apartment to a larger one, but what about moving from a 110 sqm to a 65 sqm? My former apartment was rather large for Milan's standards... I don't really regret it; a small one is easier and faster to clean, and heating will be cheaper. But at this point, downsizing and decluttering have become a necessity. Luckily there are plenty of pages that give tips and show how to do, but even this way, sometimes it's difficult to choose what to keep and what to give away. I decided I won't throw away anything unless it's broken; almost all the things I want to eliminate (clothes, furniture, kitchen tools, various items...) are still good and usable, so I joined Freecycle and a couple of "free giveaway" groups on Facebook and I'm using them to give away my things. I also gave several of them to a local parish that organizes a second-hand market a couple of times a year. It would be much faster to just throw away everything...

Inlay weaving

I wove my latest scarf to participate to a competition of the Etsy Italia Team... The theme was "White and red", and I decided to weave a white scarf with a red heart inlaid in it. Inlay is a technique that requires the use of an additional weft to weave the pattern (in this case a heart). I started by fixing a drawing of a heart outline to the warp with some pins... The sheet was fixed only at the base and remained "floating" as the reed had to be free to beat the weft. On each row, I first passed the red yarn in the part delimited by the outline, then the shuttle with the white yarn and then beat both yarns with the reed as usual.... I went on and the pattern slowly took shape... At some point, the top of the heart divides in two shapes, so I had to use an additional bobbin (I took one of my tapestry bobbins for this) to go on... ANd I went on with the two independent bobbins and the shuttle... ...Until the shape was complete! The rest of th...
